Saving and files

Scorilo saves every match action as soon as you take it: starting and stopping the clock, goals, events, corrections, substitutions, periods and applied preparation changes. While the clock runs, Scorilo also stores the clock about once per second. You see none of this; a message only appears if something cannot be saved (After a crash).

This data lives in Scorilo’s own storage on this computer. It needs no internet and no file.

Not saved automatically are drafts: entries in Preparation that you have not applied yet, a changed draft in the editor, and settings without Save Profile.

File → Save (Cmd/Ctrl+S) in any Scorilo window:

  1. applies all open drafts of all windows: Preparation, display program, editor, settings,
  2. saves the match and the clock,
  3. writes the Scorilo document if the profile is linked to one.

A running clock keeps running. If a draft cannot be applied, for example because a field is invalid, Scorilo saves nothing and names the area and the reason, for example “Nothing saved. Match: check the input. Match length: not possible while the clock runs.”.

If the profile has no document yet, Save opens the Save As… dialog once. While the clock is running, no dialog opens; Scorilo reports that the match is saved and that you can choose a location after the match.

In the trial, Scorilo writes no file; the match is still saved (Trial and license).

A Scorilo document (.scorilo) contains your whole profile: settings, slides, display program, music, media and all matches with their players. Use it as a backup and to continue working on another computer.

  1. In the control window, select File → Save As… (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+S).
  2. Choose a folder and a name, for example “Riverside FC season 2026.scorilo”.
  3. Select Save.

Result: Scorilo reports “Saved to “…”.”. The profile is now linked to the document; the window title shows its name. Every further Save writes to this document. When the profile has changes that are not yet in the document, the dot in the red close button shows it on a Mac, and “(edited)” in the title on Windows.

Save As… with a new name creates a copy; the old document stays unchanged.

Prerequisite: The clock is not running and no drafts are open.

  1. Select File → Open… (Cmd/Ctrl+O), File → Open Recent, or double-click the document in Finder or Explorer.
  2. If the current profile has unsaved changes, Scorilo asks Save, Don’t Save or Cancel.

Result: Scorilo switches to the document’s profile and selects the match that was selected when it was saved. Players who already exist on this computer are matched, not duplicated.

If the same profile already exists on this computer and differs from the document, Scorilo asks:

  • Use the File: the document becomes the profile. This computer’s version is kept as an archived profile.
  • Keep This Computer’s Version: nothing is imported.
  • Cancel: nothing changes.

A profile without a document that you leave with Open is archived.

The message names the reason, for example that the disk is full or that a media file is missing. The previous version of the document then stays unchanged, and the match is still saved. Fix the cause and save again. If an item is missing, import it again first (Manage media).

A Scorilo document contains the players of your matches, including private details such as birthdays. It contains no DFBnet credentials. Only share it with people who may see this data. Profile protection encrypts it with a password (Settings).
